I suggest you ...

Rework notes function - in one or multiple phases

Note attachment
• allow a note to be attached to multiple passages - with the note icon appearing on each passage
• allow all links - to other notes, PDF's mp3's, PowerPoint's, web, mind maps, sentence diagrams, vocabulary lists
• permit notes to be attached to a lemma, liturgical date, search string...
• allow default note icon color to be set at the file level; permit more colors (at least match L3)
• allow user selection of highlight style to indicate attached note/selected text - include suppressing highlighting or show only on mouse over
• improve input window (more like L3)
• sequence multiple note icons on a text by standard Prioritization

Note content
• permit at least as much formatting as in L3 which includes tables, illustrations, colored text, underlined text ...
• additional formating: fine control of font size, highlighting
• permit notes to be made from templates
• integrate a journaling feature - a note file that automatically includes date in the title and automatically sorts on date

Note navigation
• allow a search specifically on notes (or my content) with result search terms highlighted in automatically expanded notes
• allow tags on all notes and a search on those tags
• allow table of contents similar to L3
• sort sequences: (a) additional sequences: canon, created date, last modified date, user note title, highlighting; .(b) remember sequence function (allow temporary); (c) set priority for sort ket values (example: liturgical year)
• layout should remember position in a note file (specific note)
• add linkset functionality to notes (requires appropriate sort sequences) [this allows My Commentary; added to clippings it allows "My Catena"]
• ability to add notes to collections
• use right click rather than red x for delete
• permit drag and drop on multiple notes

Note specific functions:
• allow notes and note files to be merged or split
• add a reporting feature which pulls all notes on a given pericope into a printable, exportable file.
• Implement parity for Mac version

General functions - including but not limited to notes:
• include spell checker in notes
• retain "deleted" notes (and other user content) for a period of time - permitting a restore function
• improve the performance: keyboard entry, long notes and note files
• allow the sharing of notes between users
• automatic linking of Bible references to handle double punctuation and all standard citation abbreviations
• pop-up window (especially notes & references in notes) to be as large as the note requires with the ability to be pinned and scrolled.
• allow creation of new file and opening of any existing file via right-click (notes, clippings, etc.)
• allow prioritization of files (especially notes) in "My Content" section
• allow searching of My Content by heading
• allow the saving of a BWS either into a Clipping or a Note

Also please make it possible for the notes taken on all platforms - I mostly use a mac and an ipad - to be actually interchangeable. Right now they are very different, making the synchronized amalgamation of notes from multiple platforms a mess. Glad that it is now possible to synchronize, making the notes interchangeable is a minimal next step.

        Thank you.

I need the Logos 4 notes to be re-instated to standard of Libronix, namely the INDEX OF HEADINGS in a column, like book resources.

Why is Logos 4 inferior to Libronix? Libronix notes are POWERFUL resources, because they can be quickly continually edited.

Personal Book Resources are fabulous in their own right, t but cannot be instantly quickly edited like Note Files. Large Logos 4 Note files are unwieldly and unmanageable for someone working quickly. I have not used Logos much for a few years, in the meantime I have bought $1000s of Logos resources on the pre-pub program. Now I find my study system of putting EVERYTHING into Libronix struggles because Logos 4 note files have regressed! Please update the Note Files ASAP with the index of column headings

I would like when I print my highlight would include the reference beside it. For example when I highlight/note it displays:

MHT God gave the prophet Zechariah

Would like to see inline reference:

MHT God gave the prophet Zechariah. (p. ???)
        KJV Jesus wept. (Jn. 11:35)

Also option for footnotes rather than MHT at the beginning, same with Bible references.

It is possible I have not played with it enough to know all the ins and outs but I surfed through the options that make sense to me.

Agree with first two items in previous post.

        My priorities:
        1. Hyperlink Bible references (Mac)
        2. Total parity for Mac

Please put style names in title section of Palette note files. then we can sort and group markup by title plus go to specific markups in various resources.

From the list, I'd particularly like to see greater formatting (e,g, tables) and the ability to create template notes. The speed issue is also of concern as my notes files grow. Thanks for a great program though - it has revitalised my study.

I agree, and I'm sorry if I missed this in Smith's list, and I don't want to shake up this apple cart (that I believe is going in a good direction :) But I have just a few comments to add regarding notes:

--- I WANT NOTING MY LOGOS BIBLE TO FEEL LIKE NOTING MY PAPER BIBLE! :) ---

What do I mean by that?

I mean, when I make a note in my paper Bible, I feel like the note is right THERE...next to the passage to which it pertains. When I make a note in Logos, I feel like it's contained off in some distant, disconnected file...

I guess, the issue is with containing notes in a "file." This means that I can't just simply write a "note" on my page without having to decide just ONE category that this note applies to: "Heaven" --OR- "Writings of Paul" -OR- "The Second Coming", etc...but what if it applies to all three!? I can (and did) just make a file called "General Notes," but this feels cluttered, unorganized, and again, disconnected...and I have to open the file every time I want to make a simple generic note.

        --- WHAT IF!? ---

What if I could highlight a passage, right click, and just add a note right there to my page without opening a loosely (if at all) applicable "note file?" As far as I'm concerned (as the user), my note was just made right there on my page (the same way it is in my paper Bible). Sure, it hides in a little yellow (or other color) box, (or other simple icon) until hovered over or clicked upon, but there it sits...no label, no category...no file, just a note!

"Okay," you say, "Mr. smarty pants, :) what if I DO want to associate it with a certain category?" For this, I suggest a TAGGING SYSTEM! ...I use gmail, and when I want to associate and email with something, I simply "tag" it with that category. And what if it applies to multiple categories? Well then I can tag it with all of them! "Heaven," "Writing of Paul" AND "The Second Coming!" Then gmail offers a place that I can go to view everything with that tag on it. So I could click on any of those three categories and see my same note there :)

This brings me to the "clincher" aspect for this kind of proposal. One CENTRAL NOTE MANAGER! From here, I can track and organize all my notes, based on their tags (or lack of tags). I can edit them from there, see when they were created, filter them, search them, etc.

        Just a thought :) ...

Also, I'm sure this is being worked on, but the bug which randomly duplicates notes endlessly eventually discouraged me enough to finally delete my personal notes file completely, and give up entirely on using notes in Logos until this problem has been resolved. But like I said, I'm sure that's already a dead horse, so I'll just leave it at that :)

        Thank you!

        Link to Evernote please

Bob, if necessary, click on the note icon twice and it will take you to the note. It often doesn't do so if you only click on it once, in my experience.

      • bobbob commented  ·

I will keep using the PC version through Fusion, not being able to go to the note by clicking on the note icon makes adding and editing notes a nightmare with many notes!

      • EricEric commented  ·

I second anything about "Evernote-ifying" Logos. As an Evernote power user, I can attest to its ability to quickly and easily compile and sort through massive amounts of information. Either implementing Evernote-like feastures, or, better yet, full Evernote integration would be amazing. Note that some other iOS Bible apps already have full Evernote integration. Logos is still superior to these apps overall due to desktop capabilities and a much better library, but Logos is trailing in the mobile arms race of personal content management. Logos Team, please take a good, hard look at Evernote, and thanks for all the hard work you are doing.

Taking a page from Evernote would be nice. I know Bob doesn't like notes, but something similar to Evernote, just "Logosified", would be nice.

Been long waiting for the notes feature to be at least as good as it was under libronix but expecting it to be better.

Notes is so slow when you have literally thousands of them as I have. I cannot believe that it has been left in the bad state that it is in without serious work to speed it up. It is a very important part of the software but it is just left to run slowly. it literally takes 3 minutes to load up Logos 4 because of the slowness of Notes. Please, someone at Logos, take this seriously.

This is really the only way that I can feel at home. Bc what I think about the Bible is way more important than what everyone else thinks.

not really, but I need a place to keep track of everything that I have processed better than what is there now.

      • John DuffyJohn Duffy commented  ·

Frank, I think all of it is still needed. PBB and Notes fulfill very different functions. While some users may convert mature Note files that will not be changed into PPBs, I expect that for most people Notes are most often 'work in progress' files that need these features requested above. Also, you cannot see references to Bible verses (etc) if they are in a PBB in the same way that you can with icons beside the verses in Notes.

Now that we have personal books, how much of this do we need?

Text highlighting ability would be a nice carrot to get things started! :)
