I suggest you ...

Distinguish the active tab more vividly

perhaps a more vivid color (like red) for the current narrow bar? perhaps combined with other visual aids, such as increasing font size globally, that could be an easy one-click option?

For my particular vision needs, the current color scheme is perfect. My eyes do not tolerate vivid colors on a computer screen well. Changing the active panel tab’s top ribbon to a vivid color would be so distracting for my eyes that I would no longer be able to use the program. I therefore respectfully cannot support this UserVoice suggestion.

Perhaps a way to satisfy all users’ visual needs would be to make no changes to the current default color of the active panel tab’s top ribbon, but add a user controlled option to select a different ribbon color from a set of available choices. This could be a helpful option, as long as the ribbon’s current gray color remains the default choice.

I'm not sure a more vivid color is necessary, but I think one thing that would help would be to make the topmost tab of any inactive panels a darker grey like all the tabs that are in the background, so that it's less easily confused for the active tab. The light grey (with the darker bar across the top) should be reserved only for the active tab.
