Rework notes function - in one or multiple phases
Note attachment
• allow a note to be attached to multiple passages - with the note icon appearing on each passage
• allow all links - to other notes, PDF's mp3's, PowerPoint's, web, mind maps, sentence diagrams, vocabulary lists
• permit notes to be attached to a lemma, liturgical date, search string...
• allow default note icon color to be set at the file level; permit more colors (at least match L3)
• allow user selection of highlight style to indicate attached note/selected text - include suppressing highlighting or show only on mouse over
• improve input window (more like L3)
• sequence multiple note icons on a text by standard Prioritization
Note content
• permit at least as much formatting as in L3 which includes tables, illustrations, colored text, underlined text ...
• additional formating: fine control of font size, highlighting
• permit notes to be made from templates
• integrate a journaling feature - a note file that automatically includes date in the title and automatically sorts on date
Note navigation
• allow a search specifically on notes (or my content) with result search terms highlighted in automatically expanded notes
• allow tags on all notes and a search on those tags
• allow table of contents similar to L3
• sort sequences: (a) additional sequences: canon, created date, last modified date, user note title, highlighting; .(b) remember sequence function (allow temporary); (c) set priority for sort ket values (example: liturgical year)
• layout should remember position in a note file (specific note)
• add linkset functionality to notes (requires appropriate sort sequences) [this allows My Commentary; added to clippings it allows "My Catena"]
• ability to add notes to collections
• use right click rather than red x for delete
• permit drag and drop on multiple notes
Note specific functions:
• allow notes and note files to be merged or split
• add a reporting feature which pulls all notes on a given pericope into a printable, exportable file.
• Implement parity for Mac version
General functions - including but not limited to notes:
• include spell checker in notes
• retain "deleted" notes (and other user content) for a period of time - permitting a restore function
• improve the performance: keyboard entry, long notes and note files
• allow the sharing of notes between users
• automatic linking of Bible references to handle double punctuation and all standard citation abbreviations
• pop-up window (especially notes & references in notes) to be as large as the note requires with the ability to be pinned and scrolled.
• allow creation of new file and opening of any existing file via right-click (notes, clippings, etc.)
• allow prioritization of files (especially notes) in "My Content" section
• allow searching of My Content by heading
• allow the saving of a BWS either into a Clipping or a Note

Now that we have personal books, how much of this do we need?

Text highlighting ability would be a nice carrot to get things started! :)

Something as basic as spell checking in notes would be great!

Yes please take all of this advise and make these changes as soon as possible. Thank you!

Additionally, notes linked to Bible verses should allow for a checkbox to indicate whether or not they are viewable for any Bible version. I can't stand it when a note I created while reading NKJV doesn't show up when using the NIV. Thanks!

It would be great to merge notes and clippings functionality. And if a quotation (clipping) is copied and pasted into Word, insert the reference as a footnote automatically in Word, instead of having to go back to the clipping to copy the reference and then manually insert a foot note in Word and paste it, in the same way that at present a selection is copied and pasted directly with the footnote added automatically.

great ideas; the more functional notes are, the better

Add a specialized note function that allows one to "fill in" the answers in the various study guides - with the ability to toggle whether or not the answers are shown and to copy (for export or printing) with or without the answers.

Totally agree with the above. I'd like to see a clear "color" also added for notes so it doesn't mess up my highlighting every time I make a note.

Hi Jahnhs, as far as I know, Logos has not officially responded to this request, but they are well aware of our frustrations with their note subsystem. I believe they want to first finish the pbb subsystem before they take on rewriting the note subsystem. I believe that they believe that the pbb subsystem will remove some of the items on this list.

Can anyone tell me if Logos has released any info on whether or not they're addressing these improvements, and when we might expect to see some of them happen?

Maybe I overlooked it in your improvements list but for user's like me who have many referenced notes in one note file, make it so when the user clicks on the note in the book/bible it goes directly to that note file and note in the file. It currently opens the note file but does not locate the specific note on the reference. I'm not sure what happened a few updates ago but since then the notes in my big note file now "bunch up" so that one note is over top another as I scroll to the note within the note file. Sometimes the notefile window is blank as a I scroll to the referenced note I'm looking for. It didn't use to have that problem until just a few updates ago (2 mos or so) . I didn't report it figuring it would be quickly remedied but it hasn't yet. I use notes on a daily basis, so to modify it so it as least as good as the PC L3 version, it would be nice.

I would also ask that the note indicator to be in graphics, photos, or user created.

I am wondering if a singular note can appear in, let's say, "My OT Commentary" and "My Genesis Notes," where editing it in either location would update it everywhere (since it is one and only note). I think I would settle for a link in "My OT Commentary" to a specific note in "My Genesis Notes"

1. Speed. Just makes no sense for the typing to be so sluggish on notes. And yes, I've turned Use Internet off--though it shouldn't be necessary, should it?
2. There should be one standard note file built in to each resource, so that if I'm working through Desiring God by John Piper, I don't have to start a note file called Desiring God Notes. Logos should automatically create a permanent file for that resource the first time we have it open and attempt to write a note. This is a simpler and more elegant/logical approach. Then, if we want to create files on specific subjects, we can do that separately.

I wonder if it's worth Logos' efforts in this space --or if we'd be better off to have them focus on linking to really good note software, like OneNote (?). Just an alternative thought.

These are amazing! I hope that Logos Developers will take super-serious/immediate action on these features! We Need these features in NOTES! :)

Allow the notes within a Guide to have links to other resources especially the Scripture. Let notes be the same everywhere - notes and clippings should be a single object with clippings as a subtype of notes.
