Include chapters from anthologies and introductions in the topic browser
Hi Logos!
This is not a book suggestion, but a suggestion about how the topic browser could be more functional. Please forward this to the person/team in charge of the topic browser.
My suggestion is that you seem to have a small blind spot that could easily be rectified and would make the topic browser turn up more relevant 'hits'.
There are two category of books that aren't normally thought of as dictionaries with articles, but that have entire chapters that totally could be added to the topic browser so that when searching for topics, the chapters in these books would turn up:
- "Anthology books" - books with collections of essays. For example, The State of New Testament Studies. They are books with entire chapters dedicated to specific topics.
- "Introduction and background books" - for example, The World of the New Testament by Green and McDonald. These kinds of books are basically dictionaries without calling them that. For example, you could add ch 17 of that book to the topic browser under Samaritans.
It seems like the number of these books is small enough, and the time it would take to identify the topics of the chapters of these books is short enough, and the gain in finding more resources by topic is great enough, to warrant assigning someone to do it.
I bet you could even outsource some of this to people on your Forum. Give them a list of books, have them identify the topics for each chapter, then compare their results, and enter the data. They might even find books you hadn't thought of and process those, too.
Regardless of what you think of the outsourcing idea, I just would like you to think in terms of chapters, not just in terms of articles, for your topic browser.
Thanks for your consideration, and thanks for all you guys do. I love Logos and have been using it since 1996!
In Christ, Dave Gifford
