I would like to suggest that you create a feature within notes as it relates to how a note is anchored to a resource be it Bible or other resource.

Currently placing the note icon anywhere other then just before a verse number in the Bible is not very flexible.

While preparing a study I wanted to have a chain reference note just before a verse number but within the verse itself just before one of the words within that verse I wanted to have a reference to another book like the Bible dictionary in order to make it very quick and easy to reference a spot in a dictionary within a target word within a Bible text.

While I see this can be done by highlighting the word you want to target it only allows you anchor the word to a particular Bible rather then reference it for any Bible translation you might be using at the time.

What I would suggest is to allow the user to tweak the type of anchor that is used once an anchor is created rather then having to delete an anchor fixed to a certain text and adding another anchor of reference type.

While I know you can add multiple anchors to a note it also creates multiple note icons unless you create the referenced anchor then delete the anchor fixed to a particular bible version. Only in that case will just one note icon show up for a particular target.

Another way of approaching this problem or in addition to, would be to have a global setting whereby when you select a verse or a word within a verse that anchor would automatically become a reference instead of a fixed anchor to a specific Bible.

The third option you might do to allow more flexibility to manipulate type of anchor you wish to use is to allow for the creation of sub anchors manually to a various anchor type you are wanting to use.

For example lets say you want to have a note icon appear just before the word created in Genesis 1:1 and have it be a referenced text meaning it would be available in any version of the Bible you had in your library.

You could create a feature whereby you could not only manually type in the text but also the word within the text you would like the note icon to be anchored next to.

Now granted their would have to be some context logic to know where a note would go if that particular word did not appear in a version you wanted to use but from what I can see you already have done that to some degree with highlighting where you could have a highlighted area referenced and even if another version has the sentance in a different arrangement it seems like your software will intelligently highlight the words that fit the correct sense of the text even if the arrangement is slightly different so it would seem like you could use that same principle with note icons where even if a word is not found in another version that their could be some context logic that would be used to be able to place the note icon as close to the word that was substituted or the thought that went with th eword in one version and place it in the proper arrangement within another version.

Anyway just a suggestion but boy I can see how at least for me it would be very useful in doing a topical Bible study where you are wanting to jump from one verse range to another but in some instances would like to expound upon a word within a text by having a note beside that word that could be hovered over or clicked on (depending if you are using a mobile devise or a laptop) and get the essence of the historical reference right off the word you are wanting to highlight within the text and then have the option to jump to that particular area in the book from within the word you put the note icon next to as opposed to having to have possibly multiple chain reference texts that go to one verse and then under that have a historical fact that went with a particular word or phrasing within the verse.

Even making two notes attached to a verse would be confusing because later down the line how would one remember which note icon was meant for a chain reference link to another passage in the Bible or what note was meant for the referenced historical quote in another book where as you allow for customization of referenced anchors within the text it would make it much easier down the road in a study to know where a cultural, historical or other non bible reference link might be and where you might have a chain reference to go to the next scripture in the topic you are studying on.
